You can get a discount if someone in your household is living in a care home and does not intend to return. You cannot get a discount if two or more adults live in the household. People who spend only a short time in a hospital will need to continue to pay council tax for their home address. You can get a discount if someone in your household is living in a hospital and does not intend to return. You cannot get a discount if two or more adults live in the household. To be considered a carer, you need to meet the following conditions: you live in the same home as the person you provide care for the person you care for must not be your spouse, partner or child under 18 you must be providing care for at least 35 hours a week on average The person you care for must be entitled to certain benefits: Attendance Allowance (lower or higher rate) Disability Living Allowance care component (middle or higher rate) Personal Independence Payments daily living component (standard or enhanced) An increase in the rate of Disablement Pension An increase in constant Attendance Allowance You do not have to be in receipt of a Carer's Allowance to claim a discount.To be considered a care worker, you need to: provide support or care to another person at the same address provide care or support to that person, and were introduced to him or her by a charity or local authority earn no more than £44 per week work for at least 24 hours a week live where the care is given or in premises which have been provided by your employer. This does not mean you have to live with the person you are caring for Ministers of religion do not have to pay council tax if: you do not own the property you have no independent income or assets The owner can claim a discount for members of a religious community who live in the property. You may be able to get a discount if a person who normally lives at your address is on remand or in prison.
